Chocolate Chip Cookie round-up and a cookie giveaway!

5 different chocolate chip cookie recipes.  Have I found the perfect recipe?? I've definitely found some favorites.  It's interesting to see how just a few changes can completely alter a cookie.
Cold butter cookie
This was my attempt to re-create the delicious Carol's Cookie.  Unfortunately, it was nowhere near Carol's!  The flavor was pretty good, but not my favorite cookie.  I might try the recipe again, but it's not going to be my go-to recipe. I'm still on my quest to make Carol's cookie at home!
Cook's Illustrated
This is one of my favorite recipes.  I love the detail behind the recipe.  I've never had a bad batch.  They have the perfect crispy edge and a soft center.  I love the buttery, caramel flavor.
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip
Nikki was so sweet to share her recipe with us.  I've had these cookies, and they are delicious!  They're sweet, hearty, and salty! I'm not the biggest fan of oatmeal raisin, but oatmeal chocolate chip is completely different.  One of the best combos out there.  I also love how big the cookies are!
Bread Flour
I loved how these cookies maintained their shape  They were cakey and dense.  Good flavor and a very consistent texture.  I don't know that I would go to the trouble of using this special flour again, but I'm happy I tried them.
NY Times Recipe
The legendary recipe from the NY Times.  The recipe calls for two different types of flour and you let it chill for a minimum of 24 hours.  I was really happy with the results of this cookie.  I think I baked them a little too long, but I loved the flavor.  I would definitely make them again.  I love the little sprinkle of salt on top.  It is easy to see why everyone loves this recipe.

So, which cookie is my favorite? Based on all my tests, my favorite is the Cook's Illustrated recipe.  A close second would be the NY Times recipe.  They have very similar flavor, but different texture.  If I needed to make a chocolate chip cookie, I would definitely reach for the Cook's Illustrated recipe.  I think that browned butter just makes all the difference!

Would you like to receive a batch of any of the above 5 cookies?  Just leave a comment telling me which cookie you would like to receive and I'll randomly select one person to receive a cookie package!  The contest will run through Monday the 19th of March at 6pm PST.  I can't wait to see which cookie gets the most love!
